Energy TECH Briefing Series Carbon Neutrality-CCUS on Sep 28

Co-hosted by Foreign Customer Service (FCS) of Beijing US Embassy and US-China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP), the first Energy TECH briefing Series-Carbon Neutrality on CCUS will be held in Beijing on Sep 28.

BACKGROUND:

China announced in September of 2020 that China would aim to reach peak emissions before 2030, followed by a long-term target to become carbon neutral by 2060.  In early September 2021, US and China exchanged latest development on climate change agenda and climate actions.  Both sides agreed to continue to work with each other to establish climate change cooperation frameworks and take climate actions (initiatives and programs) in green low carbon cooperation areas. Energy has been one of the important factors for combating climate change, promoting clean energy and green low carbon cooperation actions will continue to play critical role in achieving the global climate goal and agenda.

CCUS has been one of the important governments supported cooperation frameworks under climate change umbrella since 2009. Carbon capture, utilization and storage(CCUS/CCS)refers to the industrial process in which carbon dioxide (CO2) is separated from industrial emission sources and directly utilized or stored to achieve CO2 emission reduction. As an emerging technology which is expected to realize large-scale low-carbon utilization of fossil energy, CCUS technology has received high attention from the international community.(CO2)China newly released 3060 carbon target and will surely lead more policies to reduce CO2 emissions which creates more business cooperation opportunities for promoting carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) technology and solution in China.

ECP launched an “Energy Dialogue Series” in 2020, with three sub-themes,ETD series, EMI series, and iECP series.

Energy Transition and Development (ETD) Series with a focus on sharing the latest development and deep insight in the energy sector, particularly addressing the energy transition and innovation in the U.S. and China, discussing the challenges and opportunities of global energy cooperation during the critical energy transformation period.

Energy Matters and Innovation (EMI) Series with a theme on clean energy and climate change.  This series will focus on sharing the deep insight and international energy cooperation of clean energy cooperation, innovation, and climate change.

International Energy Cooperation Program (iECP) Series with a theme on global energy cooperation and dialogue.  The purpose of the iECP Series is to bridge communication, and to participate and support China’s energy industry international development by partnering with various international energy stakeholders.

Followed one of the main themes,ECP “ETD Series”, ECP together with member companies and key partner agencies are planning to organize a series of “ETD Energy TECH Briefing ” roundtables Series starting from September.  The first Energy TECH brief topic will focus on the recent popular topic in energy sector, CCUS.  Dr. Ma Xiangshan, a senior expert of CCUS will give a detailed presentation on the CCUS technology and CCUS market.  Some leading U.S. CCUS and energy industry players,  will join this Tech briefing discussion.

Please RSVP to ecpmembership@amchamchina.org before Sep 26 and only approved people could attend the seminar on site.
