The U.S. China (Beijing) Gas Industry Workshop

On June 12, National Energy Administration (NEA), U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), and U.S.-China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP) successfully co-hosted the first US-China Gas Industry Cooperation Workshop in Beijing.  Over 110 participants came to this workshop and shared the insight and discussed the cooperation opportunities for players in the gas industry from US and China both side.  Director General of Oil and Gas Department of NEA, Mr. Liu Deshun and Acting Minister Counselor of US Embassy Beijing, Mr. Scott Pozil gave remarks and reviewed the long energy cooperation history between NEA and USTDA. This gas workshop series was started on March 16, 2018, Mr. William Klein, the Acting Deputy Chief of Mission of U.S. Embassy and Mr. Fanrong Li, the Vice Administer of National Energy Administration (NEA) met in Beijing and reviewed the recent bilateral energy cooperation outcomes. U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) and NEA signed a U.S.- China Energy Cooperation Program Gas Workshop Series Agreement.

According to this bilateral cooperation framework, NEA and USTDA will work together and organize eight gas industry cooperation workshops in two years. NEA will design and decide the topics of the workshop and USTDA will provide program funding to support workshops expense and help invite American experts and industry players to the workshops.

In May 2018, U.S.- China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP) was selected by USTDA and NEA as the technical implementation agency to help invite and organize policy makers, institutional experts, and key industry players to attend the workshops and discuss cooperation opportunities.
The Beijing workshop was the first workshop of the series and the new gas workshop series cooperation is officially started from this Beijing workshop.  Invited experts prepared detailed and thoughtful insights and participated guests raised their concerns and issues of the gas industry development and trend, particularly discussed some hot topics, eg. gas storage and peak shaving issues, suggestions on bilateral economic and commercial cooperation in the energy sector.  

This gas workshop series will be an effective platform to bridge related government agencies, research institutes, and industry players to make partnerships and enhance more solid cooperation so that we can support the US-China Energy Cooperation and secure a bilateral sustainable and healthy economic and commercial partnership.
