On July 8, 2026, the 5th session of the Future Energy Trade and Consumption Series, themed “Energy, Carbon and Standards: International Mutual Recognition and Cooperation,” was successfully held in Beijing. The event was jointly organized by the Institute of Energy at Peking University (IEPKU), ECP, the Beijing Energy Club, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and the Legal and Finance Branch of China Research Society. The session focused on the alignment of corporate energy strategies, carbon targets, and standards in the transition toward net zero, with discussions covering international standards, China’s green electricity market, mutual recognition, and international cooperation.

Dr. Yang Lei, Vice Dean of IEPKU, and Mr. Alex Kazaglis, Chief Strategy Officer of SBTi, delivered the welcome and opening remarks. Participants from the fields of energy, climate, standards, and corporate practice then exchanged views on how science-based targets can support business transformation and how greater alignment of standards can facilitate international cooperation.

Dr. Nate Aden, SBTi Head of Asia and Head of Financial Standards, delivered a keynote presentation titled “Powering the Net-Zero Transition: The SBTi Reference Framework for Corporate Energy Strategies in China.” His presentation introduced how corporate energy strategies can be aligned with net-zero goals and highlighted the relevance of international standards frameworks to the transition practices of Chinese companies.

Ms. Jenny Zheng, Research Fellow of Tsinghua Tiangong Think Tank and Director of the Sustainable Development Department of Beijing PowerChain Technology Co., Ltd., gave a featured presentation titled “China’s Green Electricity Market: Development and Future Outlook.” The subsequent sharing and discussion session addressed corporate energy strategies, green electricity applications, alignment of carbon standards, and opportunities for international cooperation.

Future Energy Trade and Consumption Salon Series will continue to focus on frontier topics in energy trade, low-carbon transition, and international cooperation. It aims to foster in-depth dialogue among government, industry, academia, and research communities; promote mutual learning between international experience and Chinese practice; and support practical cooperation and the green and low-carbon development of enterprises.
